Cahors Vineyard Tour –80 kilometres
The suggested tour is a round trip of 80 kilometres. While vineyards are main focus it also
takes in a number of historical towns and village as well as the meandering Lot River with
river boats, hilltop roads and wonderful panoramic views. The roads we suggest you follow
are most attractive, but often very narrow and you can get lost – do take your time. This
is a region where a guided wine tour is a sound recommendation.

Vineyard Selection
Chateau Lagrézette
Cahors town
To get a feel for Cahors wine when you visit the Pont Valentre bridge, situated opposite
the bridge is Lagrezette Cave (an outlet of Château Lagrézette CAILLAC) Here you will find
reasonably priced Cahors wines at €6 a bottle alongside rare aged Cahors wines for up to €1600 a bottle.
Chateau Lagrézette has its winery at Caillac about 12 kms from Cahors off tHE D8.

Domaine le Passelys
Doulle
On leaving Cahors we travel in a west direction on D8 to Doulle, then up the D12 to Domaine le Passelys
which is owned by Marie-Helene and Thierry BAUDEL. They have 8 ha of grapes and produce AOC Cahors wines,
vin du pays Lot Red Wine, Rose, Dry White and White Moelleux which give an understanding of the range of
authentic Cahors wines. The wines range in price from €6 to €10 with the excellent Passelys “Prestige
2002 AOC Cahors selling at €8.20

Chateau Plat Faisant
Les Roques
Continuing on the D12 to C1 to the hamlet of Les Roques where you will find Chateau Plat Faisant
with winemakers Serge Bessieres and Caroline Dumond. The old family vineyard of 20 ha of Malbec
with a little merlot—the traditional AOC Cahors blend. With some of the vines over 50 years old
and low yields, 30hl/ha, and this is reflected in the depth of flavours. The wine reflects the
loving care and attention both in the vineyard and in the winery. They are proud of their wines
and why not—the quality was exceptional!
Tasting Notes
They produce three distinctly different wines and we tasted each range from 2003 to 2005.
Chateau Plat Faisant—2005 A 80% Mablec, 20% Merlot. Huge glass-filling tastes of
raspberries, well-balanced.
Curvee des Generation AOC Cahors 2003—2005 100% Malbec with one year in new oak.
Classic Cahors style, perfect with pork, beef or venison.
Curvee de L’Ancetre AOC Cahors 2005 100% Malbec from 50 year old vines. An outstanding
example of fine Cahors style p– smooth, well-structured award-winning wine. Equal to
many more expensive Bordeaux wines.

Chateau Pineraie
Leygues
Approaching Puy-L’Eveque on D8 take the D5 before crossing the river for Leygues.
The vineyard is 45 hectares and has been in the family for countless generations and
comprises of 85% Malbec and 15% Merlot.
They produce three different wines:
The Domaine Pierre Sèche, from the younger vine stock, 80% of Cot and 20% of Merlot.
The Chateau Pineraie is hand sorted according to very strict specifications. It is aged
12 months in oak barrels. It is made of 85% Cot and 15% Merlot, this wine contains all
the specificity of the Cahors.
L'Authentique du Château Pineraie Already an unmissable classic in terms of quality.
This 100% malbec comes from 5 ha of very old vine stocks from 1920
Tasting Notes
Chateau Pineraie 2002 AOC Cahors
A 12.5% 100% Malbec wine with deep dark red Cahors “black” wine style. Palete of
old leather and oak with a good level of berry fruits and silky smooth tainins.
A wine that reflects careful aging.
